COLUMBUS, Ohio _ The onslaught of fatal overdoses continues in Franklin County, Ohio.
Franklin County Coroner Dr. Anahi Ortiz on a social media posting Sunday night said the tally for overdose deaths has hit 28 from Friday, Jan. 31, through Saturday, Feb. 8.
It started Jan. 31, when there were 10 opioid-related deaths reported.
There was a steady stream of 13 additional cases through Friday.
And then Saturday, there were five more overdose death cases that came through the doors of the Franklin County morgue.
"Most of these folks likely died from fentanyl," Ortiz said.
Fentanyl is a synthetic painkiller that is much more powerful than heroin. Illicitly manufactured fentanyl is made in Mexico and China and is frequently mixed with heroin or cocaine.
Ortiz urged that people access Narcan or fentanyl testing strips if they know a loved one or friend is abusing the drug.
