5 dead snakes found in Ilkeston resident's recycling bin

A resident was given the shock of their life when they went to take their recycling out and found five dead snakes.

The Ilkeston local found the dead reptiles in a black bin bag with what appeared to be wood shavings.

Neighbourhood Wardens from Erewash Borough Council went to Cranmer Street after the discovery was reported.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "We need your help! The team have been called to Cranmer Street, Ilkeston tonight as a resident has found five dead snakes in their recycling bin.

"The snakes were in a black bag along with shavings and other items as shown in the photos.

"The resident went to the bin to take out their recycling and came across them.

"Do you recognise the snakes in the photo? Do you know someone who keeps snakes but have got rid of them recently?

"Can you provide us with any information to trace the owners?"

They added that they were making the RSPCA aware of the incident.

A pet shop near Burnley, Ipets, said that they had a break-in on June 11 and pets were stolen, including snakes, DerbyshireLive reports.

Hundreds of people linked the break-in with the dead snakes found in Ilkeston. Ipets responded by sharing the Erewash Neighbourhood Warden's post.

They said: "We have been inundated with messages regarding the following discovery.

"We have passed this onto police and will speak with the relevant council tomorrow. We had no milk snakes missing but there are others there what match what was stolen from us.

"We are unable to make any further comments at the moment but want to thank you all."

Anyone with information regarding the snakes should message Erewash Neighbourhood Wardens on Facebook, email n.warden@erewash.gov.uk or call on 0115 9072244.
