5 dead, 16 wounded in Chicago shootings

CHICAGO _ Five people were killed and at least 16 others were wounded in Chicago shootings between late Wednesday morning and early Thursday, police said.

An attack, possibly domestic-related, in the South Chicago neighborhood left two people dead and a woman critically wounded. They were shot in the 8000 block of S. South Shore Drive about 12:10 a.m. Thursday, police said.

A 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman were pronounced dead after the shooting, and two other women, ages 30 and 42, were critically wounded in the same incident. Both went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

At least three men were killed in Chicago shootings Wednesday, police said.

About 9:40 p.m. on the Southwest Side, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7300 block of South Maplewood Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, according to police. Police were called to the area because of a person shot and found the man, lying facedown on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.

Just after 7:20 p.m. on the West Side, a man was found shot in the head in the 3000 block of West Fifth Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, according to police. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Just after 7 p.m. on the South Side, a 27-year-old man was found shot in the 7100 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

About 10:15 p.m. on the West Side, a 15-year-old boy was critically injured after being shot several times in the 700 block of South Kenneth Avenue, according to police. Police were called to the Lawndale neighborhood because of gunfire being reported, but they found that the boy had already been taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in a private vehicle.

No one was in custody.
