5 Crossovers To Buy in 2025 That Should Last at Least 15 Years

Toyota

Crossover SUVs offer the best of both worlds for many drivers on a budget. Built on a single frame and body like a car, they combine the smooth drive and greater fuel efficiency of a car with the higher driving position, sporty appearance and often four- or all-wheel drive of an SUV.

For drivers looking for a crossover to last at least 15 years, which models offer the best reliability and longevity?

Toyota RAV4

  • Starting Price: $30,645

Largely credited with creating the modern crossover market, Toyota’s RAV4 has remained a bestseller for over 30 years.

Buyers can bank on Toyota’s sterling reputation for dependability and when the RAV4 does need to visit the shop, owners won’t get gouged on repair costs. “Toyota builds cars to last 15 to 20 years,” said Alan Gelfand, mechanic and owner of German Car Depot. “Even the hybrid trims keep the maintenance simple, which explains why they last so long.”

Subaru Forester

  • Starting Price: $31,415

Another affordable crossover that lasts for decades, the Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive. That makes it a fantastic choice for areas that frequently see inclement weather.

In 2025, Consumer Reports named Subaru the most reliable car brand in the world. “As long as owners keep up with oil changes, timing chain maintenance and other routine upkeep, Foresters should easily last 15 years and beyond,” Gelfand added.

Hyundai Tucson

  • Starting Price: $30,200

Not to be outdone by Japanese competitors, Hyundai scored the 2025 title for Best SUV Brand from U.S. News and World Report. They particularly love the Tucson Hybrid, rating it 9.3 out of 10. Some trims come with 231 horsepower while still delivering 36 to 38 MPG.

Gelfand points out that Tucsons reliably last 15 to 20 years when maintained. “The 10-year powertrain warranty protects most of the initial ownership period and the engine’s dependability helps it last years after that too.”

Honda CR-V

  • Starting Price: $31,495

The CR-V too comes in optional hybrid trims, with better fuel economy and higher horsepower. Strong safety features and reliability ratings round out the reasons why drivers keep buying CR-Vs.

Ruth Calkins-Schmidt, general manager at car research platform FindByPlate.com, raved about the CR-V. “It offers excellent fuel economy for its class and safety features like blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control come standard for peace of mind,” Calkins-Schmidt said.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

  • Starting Price: $44,100

The Ioniq 5 has won Kelley Blue Book‘s Best Buy Award in the Electric Vehicle (EV) category two years in a row for good reason. It can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes and its battery offers a range of 245 to 318 miles depending on the trim.

“The Hyundai Ioniq 5 offers user-friendly technology, quick charging and a spacious interior that doesn’t feel futuristic to the point of confusion,” Calkins-Schmidt added.
