Cam Akers was the Rams’ top draft pick this year, being selected 52nd overall in the second round. He wasn’t being treated as such, however, seeing limited playing time for much of the season.
The Rams gave him 21 carries in Week 13, and then built on that workload with another 29 carries Thursday night against the Patriots. He erupted for 171 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving, putting together an incredible performance in prime time.
His showing against the Patriots had some historical significance, too, ranking as one of the best games ever by a Rams rookie running back.
