Though not all countries use net worth as a measurement of wealth, it is the most widely used metric. What factors into your net worth? All your assets (including what’s in your bank accounts) minus what you owe (any and all debts). On average, people in wealthy countries have a higher net worth than people in poorer countries. Among the top 10 wealthiest countries in 2025 are Luxembourg, Switzerland, Iceland and the U.S. These four countries are also among the top five where people hold the highest net worth individually, on average.

But there’s some surprises. According to data collected by WorldPopulationReview, one country with the highest net worth per adult is not among the top 10 wealthiest countries. Let’s have a look at the top five countries with the wealthiest individuals, along with a glance at the median household income and annual cost of living in each

5. Iceland

  • Wealth per adult: $498,290
  • Median household income: $61,901
  • Annual cost of living as compared to the U.S.: 46% higher

4. China (Specifically SAR Hong Kong)  

  • Wealth per adult: $551,194
  • Median household income: $67,700
  • Annual cost of living as compared to the U.S.: 8.2% higher

3. United States

  • Wealth per adult: $551,347
  • Median household income: $78,538
  • Annual cost of living: Varies dramatically depending on state 

2. Luxembourg

  • Wealth per adult: $585,950
  • Median household income: $26,321
  • Annual cost of living, as compared to the U.S.: 7% higher  

1. Switzerland

  • Wealth per adult: $685,226
  • Median household income: $60,076
  • Annual cost of living, as compared to the US: 40.4% higher
