5 clubs who should contact Man Utd as Jesse Lingard price slashed by more than half

Teams are circling around Jesse Lingard who could leave Manchester United in January for a cut-price fee.

The Red Devils will reportedly let the playmaker depart Old Trafford for £10million - less than half of what they were asking for in the summer.

Lingard's contract runs out at the end of the season and with no sign of an extension coming his way, it seems he won't be a United player for much longer.

The Englishman has been frozen out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's side this season with only one start to his name in the Carabao Cup.

Lingard wants to find regular first-team football, something which United haven't been able to offer him.

The 28-year-old can leave for free next summer which is why Solskjaer's men will look to at least get something in return in January.

Here are five clubs that could pursue Lingard in the upcoming window.

West Ham

The Hammers are understandably in pole position to sign Lingard given his impressive loan spell during the second half of last season.

The midfielder was arguably one of the best players in the Premier League during that six-month spell, proving that there is still a quality player in there after a difficult time at United.

David Moyes' men wanted to make the move permanent but were put off by the £25m asking price.

But with that price tag now significantly reduced, it would be more manageable for West Ham to sign him. Lingard's familiarity with the Londoners puts them as the favourites to secure his signature.

Newcastle

The Magpies have to enter the equation given their influx of cash under new ownership.

Newcastle will reportedly have £50m to play around with in January with more funds to arrive next summer.

Eddie Howe's men could flex their financial muscles to offer Lingard the most lucrative deal which is a worry for their competitors.

Newcastle are certainly going places and Lingard could see himself being the focal point of their rebuild.

Aston Villa

Villa are another team under new management as Steven Gerrard replaced Dean Smith earlier this week.

The former Rangers boss will likely be given funds in the New Year to put his own stamp on the team and Lingard has to be considered given his reduced price tag.

Villa have struggled to replace the creativity of Jack Grealish who left for Manchester City in the summer and perhaps Lingard could fill that void to a certain extent.

Tottenham

Spurs shouldn't be discounted either as Antonio Conte is another manager who will be active in the upcoming window.

Tottenhams' problems in front of goal are well documented and they desperately need a player like Lingard to make them a threat at the top end of the pitch.

Harry Kane is feeding off scraps at the moment and the north London club needs to find a way to provide him better service.

Lingard could do exactly that.

Everton

The Toffees would be a good fit for Lingard.

James Rodriguez followed Carlo Ancelotti out the exit door in the summer and Everton have not replaced that so-called 'no.10' position.

It's not like the Colombian was setting the world alight anyway so Lingard could actually be the player they were looking for all along.

Rafa Benitez wants his side to mix it up with the big boys so what better way to do that by signing a player from one of them
