5 biggest over/unders for Chargers’ 2019 season

The Chargers will start training camp in less than a month and it won’t be long after that they will actually playing live games. Every supporter is gearing up to see how the 2019 team will do with high expectations riding their way.

As we have some downtime between now and when the players hit the field again on July 25, we decided to do our own version of over/unders in a variety of categories among the members of Bolts and team as a whole to get you ready for the upcoming season.

Mike Williams yardage

Over/Under: 1,000

Williams will now have the No. 2 receiver role as Tyrell Williams is no longer with the the Chargers. But still, there are a number bodies to feed in a heavy offense.

Keenan Allen is the clear-cut No. 1 wideout, who has seen over 125 targets the past two seasons. Running backs Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler will get a fair amount of touches and tight end Hunter Henry is in line for a bounce-back year.

It’s very possible that Williams could see around 90-100 targets this coming season. The question now becomes many of those will be in deep ball or red zone situations to tally up his yardage throughout the season.

Under

Joey Bosa sacks

Over/Under: 13

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Bosa was not far off from the league lead in sacks in 2017 when he amassed 12.5. He only acquired 5.5 this past season but it’s because he was limited to half a season due to an injury. While having the prolific Melvin Ingram on the field definitely can reduce the number of sacks Bosa tallies, it also opens the door for him to get to the quarterback more frequently. Not only Ingram, but Uchenna Nwosu and Derwin James have also shown to be great pass-rushers. This will put more pressure on offensive linemen and give more open lanes for Bosa to finesse in one-on-one situations.

Over

Derwin James tackles

Over/Under: 130

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers are loaded on the defensive side of the ball after the additions they made this offseason. But going into the 2019 season, people are most excited to see if James tops his rookie campaign. James made an immediate impact for the Bolts as a do – everything defender, logging snaps at linebacker nickel corner, outside corner and as an extra pass-rusher. He did just about every thing to make plays and that showed on the stat sheet with his 119 combined tackles in his first year as a pro.

Over

Hunter Henry touchdowns

Over/Under: 10

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

With the departure of wide receiver Tyrell Williams, it should only set Henry up for an increased role and one that could see him having his best year yet now that he is healthy. The question becomes who gets the majority of the targets in the red zone between Mike Williams and Henry. Even though Williams was quarterback Philip Rivers’ guy when Henry was hurt last season, it’s proven that Rivers favors his tight ends in those situations. But the offense is just so stacked among all positional groups that it may slightly hinder his true production.

Wins

Over/Under: 12

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers added a few great pieces in free agency. Because of that, Los Angeles will be among the best with potentially a top-5 defense and an offense that will be in every game. But the one thing that might hold them back from really unleashing as the top team in the league and could cost them some games is the offensive line. They didn’t do anything to address it and there’s still a potential issue with the unknown status of offensive tackle Russell Okung.
