5 Best PS4 Headsets of 2019

Best PS4 Headsets – RTINGS.COM

We buy our own products and put them under the same testing methodology so that you can easily compare them. Unlike most websites, we don’t get our products directly from the manufacturers, which means our units aren’t handpicked and actually represent what you would buy yourself. We spend a lot of time comparing the products side-by-side to validate our results and we keep them until they are discontinued so we can continually go back and make sure our reviews are always accurate.

If you use a PS4 to play video games, watch TV shows or movies, or even just to listen to music, you need a headset that is not only PS4-compatible but also sounds good and is comfortable. Over-ear headphones tend to produce the most immersive sound experience and be the most comfortable for long gaming sessions. Depending on your usage, a good microphone, customization abilities, and wireless design are also important features to look out for. We’ve reviewed over 350 headphones and below are our top recommendations for the best PS4 gaming headsets to buy in 2019.

SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless: Most feature-packed wireless PS4 headset

SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Type: Over-ear
Enclosure: Closed-back
Wireless: Yes

Noise Cancelling: No

The best PS4 headset we’ve reviewed is the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless. These headphones come with a great wireless transmitter that also doubles as a battery charging station. They support Bluetooth too, so you can mix audio from both your smartphone and PS4 at the same time. They’re comfortable enough for long gaming sessions and feel very well-built.

These headphones have impressive audio reproduction, with a great neutral sound that you can EQ in the SteelSeries Engine software to better suit what you’re listening to. Their excellent stereo imaging can help you pinpoint footprints in the distance and detect where your enemies or allies are hiding. In addition, you’ll hardly ever have to worry about running out of power thanks to their 15-hour battery life and swappable dual-battery system.

While their microphone performs remarkably well overall, the Arctis Pro Wireless don’t have as many mic customization options as the Arctis Pro GameDAC. The EQ offered in the SteelSeries Engine also isn’t as detailed as the one you get with the GameDAC model. That said, if you’re looking for a wireless PS4 headset that also supports Bluetooth, the Pro Wireless are definitely your best choice.

Logitech G933: Most highly customizable headset for PS4 and PC

Logitech G933

Type: Over-ear
Enclosure: Closed-back

Wireless: Yes

Noise Cancelling: No

If the PS4 is your console of choice but you’re also a PC gamer who likes a highly customizable gaming experience, then you’ll want to get the Logitech G933. Their gamer-focused design is comfortable enough for long gaming sessions, and they feature three programmable buttons that you can map to trigger specific gaming commands, which is neat.

These headphones have good sound and microphone quality, and their mic also handles noise well. What really sets them apart, though, is their compatibility with the Logitech G Hub, which is the most comprehensive and complete gaming software we’ve seen to date. It provides a graphic EQ and surround sound effects, as well as customizable microphone and sound volume levels on top of letting you assign PC-specific or more general commands directly to the headset.

While their gamer-centric design will be welcome to most, some people will be off-put by how bulky they are. They also don’t feel quite as solid as some of the other higher-end gaming headsets we’ve tested. That said, they’re pretty reasonably priced and their ear cup padding, cables, and battery are all replaceable, so they should still last you a while with proper care.

SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC: Excellent wired PS4 headset with an external DAC

SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC

Type: Over-ear
Enclosure: Closed-back

Wireless: Yes

Noise Cancelling: No

If you prefer the reliability of a wired design but still want a headset that you can customize to your heart’s content, then get the SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC. They have the same great build quality and comfortable fit of the Arctis Pro Wireless, but come with a great external DAC.

Their DAC is great with lots of input options and has a backlit screen which provides lots of control over the headphones, like channel mixing and a built-in EQ. The SteelSeries Engine also provides more mic customization options with the Pro GameDAC than it does with the Pro Wireless model, which is great if you play a lot of online multiplayer games and need to make sure your mic sounds just right.

Unfortunately, the way these headphones sound tends to vary across different people, especially if you wear glasses or have long hair. Thankfully, their great EQ can help make this less of an issue, especially since you don’t need to be at your PC to customize the way they sound. They’re a little pricey for wired headphones, but those who appreciate all their features are sure to find that they provide good value overall.

HyperX Cloud Flight: Good, simple wireless design for PS4

HyperX Cloud Flight

Type: Over-ear

Enclosure: Closed-back

Wireless: Yes

Noise Cancelling: No

If you just want a good, simple wireless gaming headset, then get the HyperX Cloud Flight. These headphones have a low-profile design that isn’t too flashy and are fairly easy-to-use. They’re comfortable, have an excellent removable microphone, and have a great battery life too.

The Cloud Flight’s mic is impressive, with great-sounding recording quality and outstanding noise handling, thanks to its noise gate processor. The headphones sound very good overall and are well-suited to not only video game soundtracks and effects, but also for listening to your favourite music. Their battery life is also excellent, lasting up to 30 hours without LED lighting enabled.

Although they feel decently built overall, they don’t have the same premium build quality as some of the other headsets we’ve tested from HyperX, like the Cloud II. They also don’t have as many connection or customization options as the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless or the Logitech G933. That said, they’re a better choice for PS4 gamers who prefer a simpler, no-frills headset that just works.

Corsair HS60: Best budget PS4 headset

HyperX Cloud Flight

Type: Over-ear

Enclosure: Closed-back

Wireless: No

Noise Cancelling: No

If you’re a PS4 gamer who doesn’t want to break the bank for good sound and a comfortable design, then get the Corsair HS60. They’re remarkably well-built, sturdy headphones that provide great value for their price. You plug them directly into your PS4 controller and they’re very easy-to-use.

These headphones have a very well-balanced sound, which makes them great for gamers who also like to use their PS4 to listen to music or watch videos. They have outstanding imaging, too, meaning you’ll be able to hear and locate enemy attacks exceptionally well. Their mic is decent, with ordinary recording quality overall but great noise handling.

Unfortunately, their companion app is limited to PC use, so any EQ presets you make won’t hold on the PS4. That said, if you like the way they sound straight out-of-the-box, this shouldn’t be much of an issue for you since the app doesn’t do too much else. Overall, the Corsair HS60 are one of the best budget gaming headsets for any console, including the PS4.
