The 2020 NFL Draft is over, but its time to look back at some of the best selections from over the weekend. Not surprisingly, the Raiders show up on this list a few times as they crushed the second and third day of the NFL Draft. So without further ado, here are the five best picks from this year’s draft.
1. WR CeeDee Lamb, Cowboys
The Cowboys weren’t searching for a wide receiver early in the 2020 draft, but arguably the best receiver fell to them at pick No. 17 and the value was too good to pass up.
Lamb is a perfect fit in the Cowboys’ offense as he can play outside and in the slot. And with Randall Cobb leaving this offseason, Lamb can slide right into a starting role with Dallas.
Don’t be surprised if the former Oklahoma receiver winds up being one of the favorites to win the 2020 Rookie of the Year Award as he joins an already elite offense and can be a weapon in the red zone for Dallas.
2. FS Grant Delpit, Browns
After addressing their offensive line need in the first round with Alabama tackle Jedrick Willis, the Browns traded down in the second round and were still able to pick up arguably the best safety in the class in Grant Delpit.
Delpit was the 2019 Jim Thorpe Award winner as he was named the nation’s top defensive back. However, he fell in the 2020 draft due to some tackling concerns. But he will now be paired with hard-hitting safety Karl Joseph and should bring playmaking to a secondary that desperately needs it. Expect Delpit to be a Day 1 starter for the Browns and an impact player in 2020.
3 WR Bryan Edwards, Raiders
One of the most underrated picks of the 2020 NFL Draft was the Raiders grabbing former South Carolina receiver Bryan Edwards. After picking Henry Ruggs in the first round, Edwards is the perfect complement as he can win in the short to intermediate portions of the field with his size and route running.
Edwards was one of the most physical receivers in the draft and he’s dynamic after the catch. Assuming he is healthy, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he cracked the team’s starting lineup as a rookie as he might be the team’s best route runner already. Look for Edwards to quickly become one of Derek Carr’s favorite options on third down and in the red zone as he knows how to use his body to shield defenders away from the ball.
Edwards could wind up being one of the best receivers in this class if he can stay healthy.
4. CB Amik Robertson, Raiders
Another Raiders’ selection appears on this list as the Raiders stole arguably the best slot cornerback in the draft in Amik Robertson. After a highly productive career at Lousiana Tech, Robertson fell to the bottom of the fourth round due to size and injury concerns. But if he is healthy, you can make a case that Robertson was one of the best defensive players in the entire draft.
Look for Robertson to compete for slot snaps as a rookie and potentially take over Lamarcus Joyner’s job after the 2020 season.
Robertson shares a lot of similarities to Tyrann Mathieu of the Chiefs and could prove to be the same type of player in the NFL. He’s a perfect fit in Paul Guenther’s defense and could become one of their best players in due time.
5. WR Tyler Johnson, Buccaneers
Tyler Johnson’s fall in the 2020 NFL Draft was a curious one. He was loved by both film watchers and analytic scouts as he was highly productive at Minnesota. But he fell to Day 3 in the draft and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers scooped him up.
Johnson is a perfect fit in the Buccaneers’ offense as he can work from the slot using his size and catch radius. He’s not the fastest receiver, but he knows how to get open and make tough catches across the middle of the field.
Don’t be surprised if the Day 3 pick works his way into the starting lineup as a rookie and becomes a favorite of Tom Brady. Johnson couldn’t have asked for a better landing spot as Mike Evans and Chris Godwin should draw enough attention on the outside to allow life to be easy in the slot.
