5. Las Vegas at Los Angeles Chargers
LINE: PICK
ATS PICK: Las Vegas
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Are you a winner, or are you a loser?
Sorry, that’s lame, but without putting too fine a point on it, some teams just win, and some teams just lose.
Sorry, that’s even worse. Let me try again – the LA Chargers have a bad habit of not knowing how to win.
They’re terrific. Justin Herbert is a budding superstar franchise quarterback, the offense is humming, the defense hasn’t been that bad, and …
This team loses.
Whether it’s the two overtime defeats to Kansas City and New Orleans, or the four giveaways to give up a loss to Carolina, or not being able to hang on against Tampa Bay and then last week to Denver, this team has a whole lot to negative momentum going its way.
Enough gut feeling – why is Las Vegas going to win this even game? The running attack finally showed up like it’s supposed to last week against Cleveland, the team seems to have found something physical up front, and the 32nd-ranked run defense shouldn’t be hit that hard by a Charger ground game that’s great at yards and bad at finishing.
The team is bad at finishing.

NEXT: Miami at Arizona
4. Miami at Arizona
LINE: Arizona -5.5
ATS PICK: Miami
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is NOT the definition of insanity – that’s just something pretentiously silly people like to say when they can’t make a real point.
No, the actual definition of insanity is to be mentally ill, or to be extremely foolish or irrational, which goes hand in hand with the third straight attempt at getting Miami right.
The Dolphins have been playing as well as anyone in the NFL over their last three games, even if Tua Tagovailoa only threw for 90 yards in last week’s win over the Rams.
The Dolphin D is a takeaway machine, it hasn’t allowed more than 17 points in any of its last three games, and more than all of that, it’s time to get on the right side of the fun.
We picked against the Dolphins against San Francisco a few weeks ago, and it was a 43-17 whiff. Again, we picked against them last week against the Rams, and that didn’t work.
It’s a long trip, and Arizona is good, but the 5.5 might just go up by gametime.
NEXT: Chicago at Tennessee
3. Chicago at Tennessee
LINE: Tennessee -6.5
ATS PICK: Chicago
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Something seems to be missing here – the investment public has access to news and information, right?
Beyond Chicago being really, really awful at professional football on the offensive side, it’s about to be really, really, really awful with a hot mess of an offensive line that has a whole slew of problems.
It’s not like this thing was the 1993 Dallas offensive front to begin with, and now COVID and other injuries have ripped the line to shreds. There’s no Tennessee pass rush to worry about, but there’s also no real backup with Mitchell Trubisky hurt.
Even if everyone was healthy, the Titans -6.5 wouldn’t be an awful call. Now it just seems responsible.
NEXT: New England at New York Jets
2. New England at New York Jets
LINE: New England -9.5
ATS PICK: New England
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
New England might be lousy, but the New York Jets are at another level.
I know, I know, everyone got burned on Monday night when the obvious play seemed to be Tampa Bay over a bad Giant team, but the Jets are at a whole other level of suck.
They’ve only lost by ten points or fewer three times this year – two times were against Buffalo – and everyone else has roasted them at will. Sam Darnold is still hurt – like that matters in this – and the offense has scored a grant total of 20 points in the last four games.
The Jets have scored more than 13 points just once in the last seven games.
The Patriots have a whole slew of problems on a four-game losing streak, and Cam Newton doesn’t seem be right after his bout with COVID, but if the team’s turnovers stop, and if Cam is Cam as he tries to make amends for the late fumble against Buffalo, getting past ten points shouldn’t be an issue.
NEXT: Pittsburgh at Dallas
1. Pittsburgh at Dallas
LINE: Pittsburgh -14.5
ATS PICK: Pittsburgh
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
You’re never quite wrong if you go with double-digit home underdog in the NFL – except for here.
In the college world, 14.5-point spreads are part of a nutritious breakfast, but get one in the NFL and we’re all eating – except for here.
Nothing against Garrett Gilbert – the guy has managed to make around $2 million bopping around the NFL – but he’s now the fourth option on a dead Dallas team that has nothing going its way.
That includes the bad hamstring on Ezekiel Elliott.
14.5, though is still too much to giveaway, especially considering Pittsburgh has only won by that many or more once. Dallas has lost by 14 points or more in each of the last three games since Dak Prescott went down for the year.
Maybe Gilbert is the next Drew Brees. Maybe he’s the next rags-to-riches journeymen superstars. Or maybe Dallas has scored 22 points over the last three games and has the worst run defense in the NFL.
This is a prideful Steeler defense that’s not going to let up just to make everyone feel nice. Pittsburgh can score 20 and potentially have this covered.
