5. Tennessee at Green Bay
LINE: Green Bay -3
ATS PICK: Under on the 54
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
We start this week with a bit of a curveball.
Yes, like Green Bay -3 at home with the No. 1 seed in the playoffs all ready to be wrapped up, but this game will be about the total.
More to the point, this game is about the snow, the cold, and the frozen field – no, I won’t use frozen tundra, because by its very definition tundra is already frozen, at least at one sub-level, and I’m sticking with my belief to not use the repetitive term even though I’ve been honked at by geography and geology types that tundra doesn’t have to be frozen, and …
Sorry.
It’s going to (bleep)ing snow.
The forecast is for about a 90% chance of snow and around 15 mph winds by the time this thing kicks off. It’s going to be freezing, neither team will be happy, and this isn’t going to be a high-scoring shootout.
Now, the one concern when it comes to games like this will be field goals – neither side will want to kick them. Even so, even in normal conditions there might be a shot that these two could make it a wee bit more of a defensive slugfest than it might seem.
But get in fast if you’re getting in at all – this total is going to go down fast.
NEXT: Cincinnati at Houston
4. Cincinnati at Houston
LINE: Houston -7
ATS PICK: Cincinnati
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Let’s start with this – Cincinnati got by Pittsburgh because it forced three takeaways and Ben Roethlisberger threw like his arm was about to fall off.
It’s not like the Bengal offense did anything – it only came up with 230 yards – with just 78 yards through the air whether they were needed or not. However, now the team is playing someone its own size.
Houston has a funky way of turning the ball over a whole lot. The running game is non-existent, and outside of a few shockers, this thing has gone downhill fast with three straight loss.
The fear is the 30-7 Dallas win over Cincinnati – there’s a chance this Bengal thing really doesn’t work. However, Houston gives up more touchdown passes than anyone else, gives up more rushing yards than just about anyone else, and it doesn’t take the ball away at all.
You’re just looking for an NFL franchise to not lose a game by seven points to a miserable team with ten losses.
The Cincinnati pass defense isn’t awful enough to let that happen.
NEXT: Carolina at Washington
3. Carolina at Washington
LINE: Washington -1
ATS PICK: Washington
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Really? You’re going to bet on Dwayne Haskins?
He’s really not that bad an NFL quarterback, and there really are enough good things there to to work on and develop, and …
No, really. There are.
Nah, you like this game because of the Washington defense and what it’s doing to everyone lately.
The Football Team might have lost to Seattle last week, but it was able to keep the high-powered attack to just 302 total yards.
The D is great at getting off the field, the Panthers stink when it comes to going on long drives, and there aren’t enough big runs to do much against a defense that might have been gouged by the Seahawk on the ground, but was still fine overall.
A win gives it the NFC East – yippee – and Washington has found a groove to figure out how to beat mediocre teams.
Carolina has figured out how to lose to just about everyone. Take the home to team – all it has to do is win.
NEXT: Atlanta at Kansas City
2. Atlanta at Kansas City
LINE: Kansas City -11
ATS PICK: Atlanta
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
This falls under the Don’t Give Up Double Digit Points In The NFL Unless You Absolutely Have To.
Kansas City will win, it’ll be the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and it’ll go on to have a very wonderful and fulfilling life. But Atlanta has a funky way of keeping games close.
It didn’t show up in a blowout loss to New Orleans on the road a few weeks ago, but that was the only double-digit loss since Week 4.
Meanwhile, Kansas City has a funky way of not turning easy games into routs.
Winning hasn’t been a problem, but there hasn’t been a victory by more than six since beating the Jets on November 1st.
Now, there is the fear that Atlanta decides to arrive on the Get The Season Over bus, but there are just enough young parts playing that the effort should be there on both sides.
The Kansas City secondary can be thrown on, the Atlanta defense hasn’t been bad against the run, and …
It’ll be a Chief win, but don’t give up double-digit points in an NFL game. Atlanta has enough pop and firepower to throw a few late scores on the board once KC goes into chill mode early in the fourth to get ready for the playoffs.
NEXT: Cleveland at New York Jets
1. Cleveland at New York Jets
LINE: Cleveland -7
ATS PICK: Cleveland
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
With full begging of forgiveness for being so crass and gross to bring COVID issues into the football investment analysis world …
The line is dropping, and fast.
This was at Cleveland -9.5, and then it was announced that a slew of the Brown receivers were going to miss the game due to COVID related issues.
There’s a whole lot not to like on the Browns side, from a delayed flight, to the lack of a normal routine, to not having Jarvis Landry and the receiving corps.
However, that means this is cheap at -7 – again, and likely lower when you read this – for a game the Browns should win handily.
The Jets were able to beat the Rams, but the offense didn’t work. This was the fourth time in five games the team wasn’t able to get to 300 yards of total offense, and now it’s up to the Brown defense to keep it that way.
New York has lost by seven or more in every game but three, and Cleveland is certainly familiar with the surroundings after playing the Giants last week in a 20-6 win.
Expect the Browns to keep this ultra-simple. Rely on the great backs to carry the O, expect the D to turn the Jets back into the struggling mess on offense it has been far too many times – scoring ten or fewer seven times in the last 12 games and is last in the NFL in first downs and scoring.
Welcome to the Cleveland pass rush … and the playoff push.
