5. Cincinnati at New York Giants

LINE: New York Giants -6
ATS PICK: New York Giants

And with this, we begin this week’s theme of taking EVERYONE – or, almost everyone – who’s going against a bad quarterback situation.

Of course it doesn’t always work perfectly – Carolina embarrassed us last week with the shut out win over Detroit even with PJ Walker at the helm – but if you’re trying to figure out the easiest variable to pick against, it’s obvious to go against the QBs.

However, it’s the New York Giants.

They’ve won their last two games, and the defense has been terrific, but how go do you feel giving away six points to anyone with an offense that’s going to sputter and struggle to get to 24 points?

The Giants are coming off a bye week, the Bengals have to move on from Joe Burrow with either Ryan Finley or Brandon Allen giving it a go – likely Allen – and that’s a problem considering the O is last in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt and aren’t going to hit 100 yards on the ground.

NEXT: New Orleans at Denver

4. New Orleans at Denver

LINE: New Orleans -14
ATS PICK: New Orleans
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

And now we’re on to Bad Quarterback Situations, Part 2.

Actually, it’s more like No Quarterback Situation.

An NFL team has to play a game with no quarterback – and no chance to get one up to speed after finding out 24 hours before the game that the entire position is wiped out due to COVID restrictions.

Enter former Oregon RB Royce Freeman, and former Wake Forest QB/WR Kendall Hinton to try making something happen out of all this.

Normally you never, ever give away two touchdowns to any pro team, and to be totally honest, I hope we get this pick wrong – it would be a blast to see Denver junk ball it up and pull this off.

However, New Orleans has the exact right defense for this – the run D is a killer, and Denver won’t be able to throw a lick. On the other side, Taysom Hill and the Saint offense can be conservative, it won’t make mistakes, and it’ll grind out a win over a team that will give it the old college try.

NEXT: Miami at New York Jets

3. Miami at New York Jets

LINE: Miami -7
ATS PICK: Miami
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Here’s a funky quarterback situation pick of a different sort. In this case, losing the starter is a positive, and getting back the starter is a negative.

The Jets get back Sam Darnold, who wasn’t that awful – at least, it wasn’t all his fault the team was miserable – before getting knocked out for a few weeks with a shoulder problem. Joe Flacco wasn’t great, but he was … competent.

On the other side, Tua Tagovailoa is the future star of the Miami Dolphins. He’s going to be the main man, The Franchise, the next great Dolphin passer, and …

Ryan Fitzpatrick is the better option for right now.

Tagovailoa has a thumb injury, and as long as Fitzpatrick isn’t throwing a slew of picks, the offense should be more explosive and a bit sharper. The team was just beginning to hum before the quarterback switch was made, and  now “Fitzmagic” should be able to do his thing again.

By the way, Miami won the first meeting 24-0.

NEXT: San Francisco at Los Angeles Rams

2. San Francisco at Los Angeles Rams

LINE: Los Angeles -6.5
ATS PICK: Los Angeles
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

The 49ers were fighting through injuries all season long, but they were sill able to battle and claw their way to wins – including a stunning 24-16 victory over the Rams back in mid-October.

It’s not like Jimmy Garoppolo was making anyone forget about Joe Montana, but when he got knocked out for the year, everything started to stumble.

To be fair to Nick Mullens, he hasn’t been bad and he’s had to go against Seattle and New Orleans on the road and Green Bay at home – the Niners probably lose those three games with Garoppolo, too.

But they lost those three, and combine that with the added stress of not knowing what’s happening next after Santa Clara County announced that physical sporting events can’t happen in the area for a few weeks.

Combine all of that with a red-hot Ram offense looking for revenge after the loss a month ago, and winning by a touchdown isn’t asking for the world.

And finally, the quarterback situation that’s so weird and bad that it’s actually a tad worse than Denver’s situation of no quarterback at all …

NEXT: Cleveland at Jacksonville

1. Cleveland at Jacksonville

LINE: Cleveland -7
ATS PICK: Cleveland
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Okay, Mike Glennon … GET IN THERE.

It’s not just about the new Jacksonville starting quarterback for a passing game that hasn’t hit 160 yards in three of the last four games. It’s about a team on a nine game losing streak that’s not great against the run going against a rolling Cleveland team that’s fantastic at running the ball.

You’re a little concerned that it’s a road game, and the Jaguars have been competitive at times – two of the last three losses were by a combined six points. However, Cleveland has the league’s third-best running game and it’s about to rumble at will.

The Browns should control the clock with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt blasting away, and that will make Jacksonville turn to Glennon to save the day.

Glennon hasn’t thrown a pass yet this year. Last season he threw ten passes for the Raiders – one for a touchdown – in two blowout losses. The year before that, he threw 21 passes for Arizona – one for a touchdown – in two blowout losses.

He got four starts in 2018 and wasn’t awful, but it was time to start the Mitchell Trubisky era – yeeeeeeesh – and that was it.

Glennon will let it rip, and he’s a veteran who won’t be shellshocked by the moment, but …

Take Cleveland.
