5. Kansas City at Las Vegas
LINE: Kansas City -8
ATS PICK: Las Vegas
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
It’s never a good thing to assume that one team has another team’s number – or that the concept translates to another matchup – but there’s something very New Orleans vs. Tampa Bay about this.
New Orleans was able to stuff the Bucs in the season opener, and then things got even uglier in the big rematch. The Saints just seemed to have the right mix and the right plan for Tom Brady and the bunch.
Does Las Vegas have Kansas City figured out?
The Raiders were able to run, pound, and grind their way to a 40-32 win in Week 5, coming up with 144 rushing yards to go along with a massive 346-yard day from Derek Carr. The defense didn’t have the Chiefs figured out, but the offense dictated the action.
Now the Raiders are running even better than they did earlier in the year – with their three best efforts of the season right in a row, including two 200-yard days – as the team is getting more physical and more successful.
Kansas City has a mediocre run D, but teams tend to abandon the ground game after getting down so quickly. Las Vegas isn’t going to get too funky here.
Of course it’s not fun – and sort of crazy – to ever pick against the Chiefs, but Vegas could win this outright and it’s getting eight at home.

NEXT: Miami at Denver
4. Miami at Denver
LINE: Miami -3.5
ATS PICK: Miami
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
If something works, you stick with it until it stops.
Miami has worked lately in a very, very big way, because the team has figured out how to win.
It’s not all that great at any one thing other than taking the ball aways, and Tua Tagovailoa isn’t pushing the ball down the field at all, but for a team that looked like it was a mortal lock to be in the hunt for the No. 1 overall pick earlier this year, it’s on one hell of a tear.
There’s a loss to Seattle in the mix, but the Dolphins have won fix of their last seven games, they’re playing with tremendous confidence, and they keep on covering.
To make this more tangible, Denver has a turnover problem. It only gave it up once in the two games before dealing with Las Vegas, and then it turned it over five times in the loss. Miami is going to take the ball away at least twice, it’s probably going to capitalize on the mistakes, and it’s going to win again.
Because that’s what Miami does.
NEXT: Philadelphia at Cleveland
3. Philadelphia at Cleveland
LINE: Cleveland -2.5
ATS PICK: Cleveland
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
If something appears to be too good to be true …
Go with it anyway. It’s more fun.
Philadelphia isn’t very good at professional football this season.
It beat the Giants, but who hasn’t? It beat Dallas, but that’s what you do.
It had a few nice moments – taking down a wounded San Francisco wasn’t without its charm – and it’s probably going to be a playoff team in a miserable division, but it turns the ball over way too often, it doesn’t take the ball away, it doesn’t go on a whole slew of scoring marches, and it’s bad at stopping good running teams.
Cleveland is great t taking the ball away, it’s one of the best running teams in the NFL, it’s excellent at going on long scoring drives, and it’s coming off a 231-yard day on the ground in a bad weather win over Houston.
And it’s only giving away 2.5 at home.
Of course, this is when the NFL goes NFL and rises up and bites you, but if it looks too good and too obvious …
NEXT: Detroit at Carolina
2. Detroit at Carolina
LINE: Detroit -2
ATS PICK: Detroit
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
It isn’t more difficult than this …
PJ Walker and/or Will Grier, and no Christian McCaffrey, and a mediocre defense that’s not good enough to make up for the changes in the offensive backfield.
It’s not like Carolina was burning it up with Teddy Bridgewater under center – losing five straight games mostly due to a defense that’s been getting destroyed through the air lately – and now there’s a wholesale change to an injured group.
Detroit is hardly anything amazing, but it’s been able to win three of its last five games, it hasn’t been all that awful on the road, and it has the passing game to push ahead that Carolina probably won’t.
You’re only giving away two. If you lose to PJ Walker, that’s on Detroit, not you. And finally …
NEXT: New Orleans at Atlanta
1. New Orleans at Atlanta
LINE: New Orleans -3.5
ATS PICK: New Orleans
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Sean Payton just put it out there for his team, and now watch out for everyone to pick it up to make it all work.
You don’t make a call like turning Taysom Hill into your starting quarterback of Jameis Winston without basically telling your team that you think you can win no matter what.
Or, that you have faith that Hill can get the job done.
It’s not like Hill is going to turn into Aaron Rodgers, but the already good Saint running game will get even stronger, the combination of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray should get going against a mediocre Atlanta run D, and the Saint defense should do the rest.
At least that’s the plan.
Atlanta is on a nice run of three wins in the last four games and it’s coming off a bye week of rest, but the Saint defense is special against the run, it has yet to allow a 300-yard passing day, and Hill might just be that good.
The hook on the line stinks – and maybe wait for it to get down to three – but if Payton isn’t worried, maybe you shouldn’t be, either.
