5. Cincinnati at Pittsburgh

I know, I know. Pick against the Pittsburgh Steelers in any way at your own peril.
The Steelers are 8-0, finding ways to win in dominant fashion, in a few gut-check games, and once in a while there’s been a clunker that went the right way, like last week’s 24-19 fight against a depleted Dallas.
Cincinnati is just 2-5-1, but it’s been able to find ways to come back time and again to break the hearts of investors everywhere to make games relatively close – only one of the five losses was by more than five points.
Pittsburgh will win, but that hook of the extra half a point should be a problem. This is a Cincinnati team coming off a bye week – and with the passing ability to hit the okay Steeler secondary late to come up with a few late yards and points. Joe Burrow has become a master at that.
The Bengals are rested, and the Steelers are coming off three straight road games and with a trip to Jacksonville to follow.

Welcome to Week 2 of Lame Betting Rationale predictions.
But it worked last week.
Last week, the call was that Las Vegas was going to beat the Los Angeles Chargers … just because.
Some teams just don’t know how to win. Whether it’s luck, whether it’s an inability to make a big play, or whether it’s overall execution, or whether a team just doesn’t know how to win, the Chargers just can’t get anything to go their way.
They’re 2-6, and they could very, very, very easily have been closer to 6-2, including what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown pass on the final play against Las Vegas last week that was reviewed and reversed.
On the flip side, some teams just find ways to win. Whether it’s luck, whether it’s an ability to make a big play, or whether it’s overall execution, or whether a team just knows how to win, the Dolphins are winning everything lately.
The Miami offense isn’t anything special, the running game isn’t doing anything, and Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t gone off yet, but the team is on a four-game-winning streak and it’s somehow – takeaways have helped – coming up with victories.
Until this changes, and considering you’re only giving away 1.5 points, never mess with a streak.

What about the New England Patriots lately would lead you to believe they’re good enough to hang with one of the three best teams in the league?
It took everything in the bag to get by the Jets, and before that was a four-game losing streak without enough of a passing game to matter, too many turnovers, and with a run defense that’s having a whole slew of problems.
Welcome to the Baltimore running game.
The Ravens lead the NFL in rushing, and now they don’t have to do anything too crazy. Run, run some more, and do the things the Patriots do, but better.
It’s a road game coming off two nasty days against Pittsburgh and Indianapolis, and there’s a chance the team could be looking ahead to Tennessee. However, as long as the running game works like it’s supposed to, and as long as the run defense continues to be fantastic, giving away a touchdown isn’t asking for the world.

Detroit might be flaky, but it’s occasionally flake in a good way.
It was good enough to comeback and shock Atlanta, and it’s been good enough at times to at least be competitive against some of the stronger teams, but it’s hardly a sure thing considering how awful the run defense is.

Washington was able to run against Dallas, but that’s been about it – it hasn’t hit 100 yards on the ground in four of the last five games. How has the Football Team been on the road?
15-point loss at Arizona, 14-point loss to Cleveland, one-point loss at the Giants. You’re not allowed to lose to the Giants.
Washington doesn’t have the offense to keep up or take advantage of the Detroit issues. The Lions are way overdue for a relatively easy win, and you’re only giving away three.

Do you really think Tampa Bay is going to be that inept twice in a row?
But it’s not just that. The Buccaneers were awful in a tough Monday win over the Giants the week before getting obliterated by the Saints 38-3.
There’s no running game, the line couldn’t keep Tom Brady from being worn as a hat, and the team didn’t look anything like the powerhouse that ripped through Green Bay and Las Vegas with a dominant defense and explosive O.
What did the Bucs do after losing to the Saints to start the season? They came back and beat Carolina 31-17.
The Panthers have Christian McCaffrey back, and the offense hasn’t been bad overall, but they’re on a four-game losing streak with too many problems in the pass defense and not enough consistency on offense.
Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Gronk … the weapons are there. Brady is there. Will the defense come up with the four takeaways it did in the first meeting? Doubtful, but winning by 5.5 to get back on track shouldn’t be an issue for a team this strong.
