HYDERABAD: Five people have been held in Maharashtra and Delhi by city cops probing the cyber heist of Rs 12.9 crore from AP Mahesh Co-operative Urban Bank last month.
The detained accused — three men and two women — have claimed that they had merely allowed the scamsters to use their accounts for commission and that they had no knowledge of the cyber robbery at the bank. They had first moved Rs 12.9 crore into four accounts of Mahesh Bank and subsequently transferred it to 128 accounts of various banks spread across India. Cops have frozen Rs 3 crore so far.
While main accused is yet to ascertained, special police teams from city have fanned out to Mumbai, Delhi, Kerala and North-East states to track down 128 account holders.
