A four-year-old boy drowned in an above-ground pool in his front yard at Bridgewater in greater Hobart on Saturday afternoon, police have confirmed.
In a statement released on Monday, police said they were called to the scene around 4:30pm after the child was found unresponsive in the pool.
"Sadly, the child could not be revived and died at the scene," police said.
"This is a tragic reminder of the importance of ensuring pools have adequate fences in accordance with local government by-laws, and that children are always supervised when around pools."
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
