49ers waive TE and CB to add TE and CB

The San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday made a quick roster swap to help their depth at cornerback and tight end. They announced the additions of tight end Joshua Perkins and cornerback B.W. Webb. In a corresponding move they waived undrafted TE Josh Pederson and waived/injured CB Tim Harris Jr.

Perkins, 27, debuted in 2016 as an undrafted rookie with the Falcons. He played in eight games his first year, spent 2017 on the Falcons practice squad, and moved onto Philadelphia where he saw action in 14 contests across the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. Last year he spent the entire season on Injured Reserve with the Eagles.

He’ll take the roster spot that belonged to Pederson, who signed with San Francisco immediately following the draft. Pederson played his college football at Lousiana-Monroe.

Webb’s signing was reported late Tuesday night. The 49ers made it official Wednesday. The 31-year-old joined the league in 2013 and has 85 games of experience with six teams across six seasons. Webb has four interceptions and 27 pass breakups. He’ll offer veteran depth at a position the 49ers are badly lacking it.

Harris had been running with the starters while Emmanuel Moseley resides on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.  The 2019 sixth-round pick saw action in two games last year. He was waived/injured because of a foot issue. He’ll revert back to the 49ers’ Injured Reserve if he clears waivers.
