49ers waive safety Jacob Thieneman

The 49ers on Sunday announced the release of safety Jacob Thieneman.

Thieneman entered the league with the Giants as an undrafted rookie out of Purdue last year. He was cut and bounced to the Colts and eventually landed with San Francisco.

The 49ers had 14 open spots on their 90-man roster going into the weekend. They used five draft picks and are set to bring in 10 undrafted free agents. Thieneman was the 91st player on the roster and was let go to get the club to 90 players.

Thieneman was in a growing group of safeties where extra spots on the 53-man roster aren’t plentiful. San Francisco hasn’t officially announced undrafted rookie additions for 2020, but the reported acquisitions include multiple defensive backs.
