49ers vs. Browns: 3 things that stood out in the 3rd quarter

The offense continued to roll after the half, putting together drives of nine-plays and a 15-plays. The first resulted in a touchdown while the second ended with a blocked field goal. The 49ers enter the fourth quarter with a 28-3 lead.

Here’s what stood out in the third quarter:

Another second half opening touchdown

The offense is now four-for-four on scoring touchdowns on the opening drive of the second half. Jimmy Garoppolo went five-for-five on the drive for 76 yards including back-to-back 16-yard competitions to Marquise Goodwin and a 14-yard completion to Kendrick Bourne. The drive was finished on a 22-yard strike from Garoppolo to George Kittle.

Emmanuel Moseley tested against Beckham

Mosley was targeted just once in the first half when he broke up a potential touchdown. He finally got his first chance against Odell Beckham Jr. and was able to force an incompletion. Baker Mayfield looked deep to Beckham on the left side of the field with Moseley in single coverage. The cornerback did a great job using the sideline as a defender. Even though Beckham caught the ball, he had no chance to keep both feet in bounds.

Kittle’s efforts extend drive

On their second offensive drive of the third quarter, the 49ers faced a third-and-8 at their own 6-yard-line and a third-and-5 at their own 46-yard-line. On both third down plays, Garoppolo found Kittle short of the sticks, but Kittle’s efforts were rewarded with first downs on both plays, the first gaining 11 yards and the second gaining 10. The drive ended with a blocked field goal.
