49ers vs. Browns: 3 things that stood out in the 2nd quarter

The 49ers forced their third turnover of the night and were finally able to score following a takeaway to take a 21-3 lead heading into the half.

Here’s what stood out in the second quarter:

Moseley passes first test

Emmanuel Moseley wasn’t targeted in the first quarter of his first career start, but had a big target early in the second. On second-and-goal from the 12-yard line, Baker Mayfield targeted Demetrius Harris in the end zone, but the pass was broken up nicely by Moseley. The play saved a touchdown and the Browns would have to kick a field goal two plays later.

Mike McGlinchey beat by Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett has the talent where a team can only hope to contain the pass rusher. On a drive where the 49ers had 22 yards rushing on three carries from Tevin Coleman, the 49ers opted to throw on third-and-3. Jimmy Garoppolo dropped back but didn’t have much time as Garrett ran around McGlinchey for a sack to end the drive.

Huge red zone interception

On the doorstep once again, the Browns faced a third-and-goal when Mayfield found an open Antonio Callaway at the goal line. The ball bounced off Callaway and into the hands of K’waun Williams who returned it to midfield. Had Callaway held on, he could have fallen into the end zone to cut the 49ers lead to four, but instead it was the Browns’ third turnover of the night. The offense was finally able to cash in with a touchdown that gave them a 21-3 lead.
