49ers vs. Browns: 3 things that stood out in the 1st quarter

The 49ers forced two Browns turnovers that resulted in zero points for the offense. But they’ve still cashed in twice on drives following punts to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

Here’s what stood out in the first 15 minutes:

Matt Breida’s 83-yard touchdown

It took the 49ers no time at all to jump out to an early lead. After the defense forced a punt on Cleveland’s first possession, the offense took over at their own 17-yard-line. Matt Breida took a handoff on the first play from scrimmage and went 83 yards to give the 49ers a 7-0 lead.

Bosa pressure leads to Sherman interception

The Browns took over but didn’t hold the ball for long. On their first play after the Breida touchdown, Nick Bosa was able to get pressure on Baker Mayfield who forced a pass down field that was easily intercepted by Richard Sherman, his second of the season. The offense couldn’t do much with the field position and punted after three plays.

Continuous pressure on Mayfield

The front four had two separate plays where they created pressure on Mayfield that led to turnovers. The Browns had a third-and-3 when Mayfield held the ball too long in the backfield and DeForest Buckner was able to strip the quarterback and Bosa was able to recover. The offense couldn’t cash in once again when Robbie Gould missed a field goal following the turnover.
