49ers vs. Bengals: 3 things that stood out in 3rd quarter

The 49ers added ten more points in the third quarter to push their lead to 24 points.  They lead 34-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Here’s what stood out in the third quarter.

Deebo Samuel’s first career touchdown

After seeing more passes thrown his way in the second quarter, the 49ers kept working the ball to Samuel on the first drive of the second half. The drive started with Jimmy Garoppolo hitting the rookie on a 39-yard completion to flip field position. The 7-play, 75-yard drive was finished off with a three-yard pass to Samuel for the first touchdown catch of his career.

The defensive line is having their way

Arik Armstead sacked Andy Dalton on the first play of the game, but didn’t record another sack in the first half. The defensive line has controlled the game with four sacks through three quarters, and Cincinnati has just 26 rushing yards on 16 attempts, forcing the offense to be one dimensional. The line was able to get to Dalton in the third quarter when Ronald Blair and DeForest Buckner got to the quarterback twice in the span of three plays to force a punt.

Breida’s big day

The 49ers offense has dominated the Cincinnati all game and Matt Breida has been a large part of it. Breida has 12 carries for 121 yards for an average of 10.1 yards per carry. In the third quarter alone, the running back carried the ball five carries for 48 yards with runs of 15, 18, and 12.
