49ers still lead NFC West after Week 8 win

The 49ers stayed undefeated with a 51-13 win over the Panthers on Sunday. They stayed atop the NFC, and atop the NFC West.

Three of the West’s four teams won in Week 8. Here are the updated standings:

49ers (7-0)
Seahawks (6-2)
Rams (5-3)
Cardinals (3-4-1)

The Seahawks kept pace 1.5 behind the 49ers with a 27-20 win over the Falcons in Atlanta. Seattle led that game 24-0 at the half, but got outscored 20-3 in the final 30 minutes and had to hang on for the win over one of the NFL’s worst teams.

The Rams rolled for the second consecutive week. After blowing out Atlanta in Atlanta last week,  they knocked off the Bengals 24-10, although they scored the game’s final 14 points and never trailed. They’ve been good since falling to the 49ers at home in Week 6.

Arizona couldn’t keep pace with the rest of the division. They went to New Orleans and got whacked 31-9. Arizona kicked a field goal about halfway through the second quarter to pull within four at 10-6. New Orleans scored 21 of the final 24 points though and cruised to the win over the still inexperienced Cardinals.

San Francisco has five division games out of their final nine, and could put away the division crown early if they can scoop up victories over the Cardinals and Seahawks in their next two games.
