49ers roster moves: RB JaMycal Hasty activated off IR, LB Mychal Kendricks released

The 49ers on Saturday announced a handful of roster moves before their Week 7 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

Running back JaMycal Hasty was activated off injured reserve, linebacker Tyrell Adams was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad, and linebacker Mychal Kendricks was released from the active roster. The 49ers also elevated quarterback Nate Sudfeld and tight end Tanner Hudson from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Hasty went on IR in Week 3 with a high ankle sprain. He missed the minimum required three games and practiced all week. He should be a factor Sunday night in a rainy game that could be dominated by each team’s run game.

San Francisco signed Adams to their practice squad on Oct. 5. It’s his second stint with the 49ers, including a few weeks on their practice squad near the end of the 2018 season. In all he’s played for seven teams since joining the league in 2015 as an undrafted free agent with the Seahawks. Adams has played in 37 games with 14 starts. He has 159 tackles, 2.0 sacks and five tackles for loss. The 49ers figure to work him in primarily on special teams.

The Kendricks release is a little strange since the 49ers just re-signed him in the week leading up to their Week 7 game. They may try to continue signing him until he’s ready to play and run the risk of another club signing him. Given that Adams has been with the club for most of October it makes sense the 49ers would go with him on their active roster for Sunday.

Sudfeld and Hudson were obvious choices for elevation. Sudfeld will work in as the 49ers’ backup quarterback with Trey Lance sidelined by a knee injury. Hudson will be their third tight end with George Kittle on injured reserve.
