49ers reportedly place defender on trade block, should Miami inquire?

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly placed former top-3 NFL Draft pick Solomon Thomas on the trade block according to Pro Football Talk. This, the latest development in advance of tonight’s first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, isn’t especially surprising — considering Thomas’ issues finding his footing in the pros and the 49ers’ expected pick of DE Nick Bosa.

Should the Dolphins come calling? That, of course, is largely dependent on what the asking price is for Thomas. And while Thomas has struggled, he’s a notably investment not far removed from being on the the first picks of his respective draft class.

Miami would be a place where Thomas’ inside/outside versatility could shine, but there’s no reason for Miami to mortgage draft capital or flip players for Thomas — the price must be right. A late day 2 selection would be a worthy offer for the 49ers.

Would San Francisco accept such an offer? Not likely — but if the 49ers are desperate, they may just take a modest return. Then — and only then — is it a good move for Miami.
