The 49ers have another full week of practice before they play in Super Bowl LIV, but the week off before the game hasn’t meant San Francisco isn’t putting work in to prepare.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday told reporters the 49ers would be ready to play Sunday of the Bye week if they were asked to suit up a week early.
“If we had to play Sunday, we’d be ready,” Shanahan said. “So, any time you’re able to go through a week like this where you can go through a whole normal week and not actually have a game on Sunday, tomorrow we’ll still do red zone and stuff like that, and Sunday we’ll travel out there.”
Getting to Miami is only a step along the long road of preparation. The 49ers’ coaching staff will have another full week of time to continue tweaking their game plan and pregame work after getting a full, normal week in. With the helter-skelter nature of pre-Super Bowl festivities, Shanahan is looking forward to utilizing travel time to continue getting ready for Andy Reid and the Chiefs.
“It will be nice to have a long plane ride for myself,” he said. “Kind of go through the whole week of everything, and then we’ll start over on Monday and Tuesday where we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We know what we have, but we have a week of tape where we can clean some stuff up or take some stuff out and some more stuff come to us, we can put some stuff in.”
Super Bowl LIV should be a ton of fun with Shanahan and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid going head-to-head. They’re two of the top offensive minds in the game, and there shouldn’t be any shortage of offensive fireworks on both sides of the ball.
While Shanahan discussed his preparations, the more important area of prep for the 49ers may come on the defensive side. If they can even slow down the scorching hot Chiefs offense a little bit, they’ll be in a great position to pull out a victory in Miami.
