49ers RB Raheem Mostert out for season

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters on Tuesday that running back Raheem Mostert will miss the remainder of the season after suffering another high ankle sprain on Sunday.

Mostert originally suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 6 against the Rams. He missed the next four games and returned against the Rams in Week 12. The ankle hampered him some during his return, and he intimated the lingering effects of the first high ankle sprain would last the rest of the year. Another, new injury won’t allow him to play through it.

Mostert managed to only play in eight games for the 49ers this season, but was easily their most impressive back. On just 104 carries, Mostert accumulated 521 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also caught 16 passes for 156 receiving yards and a touchdown.
