49ers players react to US Women’s World Cup win

The US Women’s National Soccer Team took home their fourth World Cup title with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands on Sunday morning. It was their second consecutive world championship.

Megan Rapinoe opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Rose Lavelle put the game away eight minutes later with a tremendous solo effort in the 69th minute.

An 8:00 AM PT kickoff didn’t stop some 49ers from following along and chiming in on social media.

Second-year wide receiver Dante Pettis was particularly supportive of the club with a slew of live tweets and retweets during the match. He also called for the outpouring of love for the women’s team to not only come every four years:

The 49ers’ journey to follow in the USWNT’s footsteps will begin July 26 when they report for training camp. The regular season opener is Sept. 8 in Tampa Bay.
