49ers OL Shon Coleman carted off in 1st quarter, out for game

Shon Coleman got the start at left tackle for the 49ers in their preseason opener against the Cowboys. He was carted off after a gruesome lower leg injury on the 49ers’ first offensive drive.

Coleman spent last season on the active roster and was the leading candidate to snag the swing tackle spot this year. He was immediately ruled out for the game. Willie Beavers was his replacement.

The 49ers acquired Coleman from the Browns for a seventh-round pick at the start of last season. He was inactive for the entire season after starting all 16 games for Cleveland in 2017.

It looked like he was going to have a key reserve role for a shallow 49ers offensive line this year. Injuries are a nightmare scenario for any team in preseason. It’s especially bad for San Francisco on the offensive front, where their depth is a serious concern.
