The San Francisco 49ers on Sunday announced offensive line coach John Benton tested positive for COVID-19. He will not be at State Farm Stadium for the 49ers’ matchup with the Washington Football Team.
Benton’s duties will be taken over by the offensive coaching staff per a release form the team.
The 49ers said in a statement that Benton is self-quarantining and that contact tracing has begun.
“Benton immediately went into self-quarantine and the team conducted the appropriate contact tracing as part of the NFL’s intensive COVID-19 protocol. We will continue to communicate with the League and medical professionals and take the necessary precautions in the best interest of health and safety.”
