49ers LB Kwon Alexander ejected in 1st quarter

The 49ers defense shut out the Bucs in the first quarter, but they lost free agent linebacker Kwon Alexander in the process.

Near the end of the quarter, Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston scrambled up the middle on a third down. He slid late and drew a helmet-to-helmet hit from Alexander.

The NFL’s efforts to eliminate head shots led them to eject players for lowering their helmets on tackles.

It was a tough call on Alexander, who hasn’t played since tearing his ACL while playing for the Buccaneers in October last season. He was leading the team with three tackles when he got disqualified.
