49ers, K Robbie Gould agree to 2-year contract extension

The San Francisco 49ers have made a decision on kicker Robbie Gould according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 38-year-old placekicker will be around for at least two more seasons after agreeing to a two-year contract extension worth $7.25 million guaranteed.

Gould had two club options left on the contract he signed prior to the 2019 campaign. Instead of going year-to-year with options worth just north of $4 million per year, the 49ers will fully guarantee two years at $3.75 million per year.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan intimated after the team’s Week 16 win that Gould would be sticking around despite a rough outing against Arizona when he missed two kicks and an extra point. Despite that and some early struggles last season, Gould has largely been reliable for San Francisco.

In 2020 he’s 19-for-23 with two of his misses coming from beyond 50 yards. In four seasons with San Francisco he’s connected on 114 of 129 field goal attempts.
