49ers injury situation improves: George Kittle returns to practice

The 49ers’ injury situation improved Thursday when George Kittle participated in a limited fashion as he works through a groin injury. Seven players remained out of the session though with the team gearing up to travel east for a Week 7 showdown with Washington.

Kittle and DeForest Buckner were the only two of the nine players who missed Wednesday’s practice to return Thursday.

The minor injuries are starting to stack on top of the more major ones, and suddenly the 49ers’ depth could get tested in an even more rigorous manner than it has been. They’ve already played three games without starting left tackle Joe Staley, one game without starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey, two games without starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, and one without fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

San Francisco pulled off a nice win in Los Angeles in Week 6, but their ability to win while withstanding additional injuries is still in question.

Friday’s practice will give a better indicator of who’ll play Sunday. Here’s Thursday’s full practice report:

Did not participate

OT Joe Staley (fibula)
OT Mike McGlinchey (knee)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee)
CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot)
DT DJ Jones (hamstring)
RB Raheem Mostert (knee)
WR Deebo Samuel (groin)

Limited participation

DE Dee Ford (quad)
TE George Kittle (groin)
CB K’Waun Williams (hand)
