The schedule gods were kind to the 49ers. They played their first division game coming off a truncated week thanks to a Week 5 Monday night game. Now they follow their Week 6 NFC West showdown in Los Angeles against the Rams with a road game against a hapless Washington club.
San Francisco opened Week 7 as 9.5-point favorites on the road in Washington according to Bet MGM. That means the line would be closer to 12 if the game was on a neutral site. The 49ers were wallowing in the dregs of mediocrity by Week 7 last season. They probably wouldn’t have been favored on the road against this Washington team.
Now they’re not only favored, but they’re favored in a big way.
It seems like an easy bet. The 49ers should win going away against Washington, which picked up its first win in Week 6 by narrowly escaping the winless Dolphins. However, San Francisco struggled to run against the Rams without their two starting guards, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. It stands to reason they may have another bumpy offensive showing, even against a bad team.
On the other hand, their defense is on a level that should overwhelm a sputtering Washington offense that’s in the midst of a transition from former head coach Jay Gruden to interim head coach Bill Callahan.
Either way, the best bet is that the 49ers are going to ride their defense. If they have the success they’ve been having, the offense will only need minimal production to run away with a two-score win.
