49ers host veteran LB for workout

The San Francisco 49ers may be aiming to add depth to their linebacking corps. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported veteran LB Brandon Marshall worked out for the club Thursday.

Marshall, 31, was a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2012, but only spent one year there before carving out a nice career with the Denver Broncos that ended in 2018. He hasn’t played in the NFL since.

San Francisco’s depth at linebacker isn’t necessarily strong. Fred Warner is one of the game’s best and Dre Greenlaw has proven to be a starting-caliber player, but after that the pickings are slim. Marshall at his peak was a good athlete and capable of playing sideline-to-sideline. Now three years removed from his last NFL game and entering his early 30s, he’d more than likely be competing for the Sam linebacker spot.

Marshall for his career has racked up 418 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a pair of interceptions.
