49ers haven’t reached out to Steelers about Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown has made it abundantly clear that he wouldn’t mind playing for the 49ers this season. The team doesn’t appear to be as ready as Brown is for a union.

Kyle Shanahan met with the media Wednesday in Indianapolis ahead of the NFL combine and said that he’s unaware of any trade talks between the 49ers and Steelers.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said last week that three teams have reached out about trading for Brown, but those teams are still unknown.

This doesn’t mean that the 49ers don’t have interest in Brown, but Shanahan hasn’t talked to Pittsburgh yet. There’s still a possibility that general manager John Lynch has reached out to the Steelers. That doesn’t seem likely though given the cohesion between the head coach and front office.

Brown has played his entire nine-year career in Pittsburgh. He formally requested a trade earlier this month after meeting with team president Art Rooney II. San Francisco is considered one of the favorites to land the 30-year-old in part because of his multiple social media posts showing interest in playing for the 49ers.

Brown played in 15 games last season, catching 104 passes on 168 targets for 1,297 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns. Brown missed the Steelers Week 17 game after refusing to practice prior to the game.
