49ers have glowing praise for Broncos OC Rich Scangarello

Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello served as the 49ers’ quarterbacks coach from 2017-2018 before joining Denver’s staff. After the Broncos hosted San Francisco for a joint practice Friday, 49ers players and coaches had only good things to say about Scangarello.

“Rich is awesome,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said. “I mean, since the day I got traded here, he was the first guy to start teaching me the offense. I remember the bye week that we had together was literally just me and him at the stadium, we’re talking two years ago, but he’s a guy who works hard, does a great job, and he’s a great coach.”

Garoppolo struggled with injuries during Scangarello’s time in San Francisco but the QB was productive when healthy.

49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh had plenty of praise for Scangarello as well as Mike Munchak, Denver’s offensive line coach.

“Rich is very smart, very detailed,” Saleh said. “He’s got a great grasp of the system that he’s running, he’s got tremendous confidence, knows exactly what he’s looking for and what he’s doing.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Denver offense is going to gain yards and score points this year with him calling plays. Mike Munchak, the o-line coach is one of the best in the league, so they’ve got a great staff on the offensive side of the ball.”
