49ers GM John Lynch says he ‘accidentally and unknowingly’ liked a tweet mocking Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch probably wasn’t expecting to have to clarify his support for team quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Christmas Eve. But that’s exactly what happened after a minor Twitter mishap.

Friday night, Lynch offered up an explanation for why he liked a tweet from a self-described die-hard 49ers fan who suggested that the team leave Garoppolo in Nashville after its 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. As the 49ers moved to 8-7 on the season, the quarterback completed 26-of-35 passes for 322 yards and threw a touchdowns along with two interceptions, seemingly frustrating one fan enough to want his team to literally ditch Garoppolo.

So when Lynch liked the fan’s tweet, people on Twitter quickly took notice.

And that led to Lynch eventually clarifying on Twitter that he’s “a huge believer” in Garoppolo while also explaining that he “accidentally and unknowingly” liked the tweet while he was attending Christmas Eve mass.

Whether Lynch liking that tweet really was an honest mistake or something he erroneously thought fans wouldn’t really notice, as far as non-controversies go, this one is pretty low on the list.

And regardless of what actually happened, fans still had plenty of jokes at Lynch’s expense.
