49ers Garoppolo wins starting debut against Bears

CHICAGO _ Jimmy Garoppolo's debut as the 49ers starting quarterback came with accurate throws, impressive mobility and, ultimately, a fourth-quarter comeback that produced a 15-14 win over the Bears.

Robbie Gould's fifth field goal of the game won it for the 49ers, a 24-yard chip shot by the former Bears kicker with four seconds remaining.

Garoppolo was 26-of-37 for 293 yards, and his only interception came when Louis Murphy had a completion ripped from his grasp by Kyle Fuller for a first-quarter interception.

The 49ers (2-10) made five trips inside the Bears' red zone and came away with a field goal each time

The Bears (3-9) lost their fifth straight.

Garoppolo impressed throughout the game, but none more so than on the game-winning, 86-yard drive.

Taking over at the 49ers 8-yard line with 5:27 remaining and a two-point deficit, Garoppolo opened by finding Marquise Goodwin for a 13-yard gain; Goodwin got hit hard by Lamarr Houston on the tackle.

Garoppolo's clutchest throw was still to come: he found Trent Taylor for a 33-yard completion to the Bears 18 on third-and-9. The drive included two other third-down conversions on runs by Carlos Hyde (18 yards to the 49ers' 48) and Kyle Juszczyk (3 yards to the Bears' 7).
