49ers extend lead in NFC West, nearly clinch division

The NFC West has almost been wrapped up, at least at the top. The San Francisco 49ers are on the verge of clinching the division title. They extended their lead in the division and were the only team in the West to win a game.

Here are the NFC West division standings entering Week 15:

  1. San Francisco 49ers, 10-3 (4-0 division)
  2. Los Angeles Rams, 6-7 (4-1 division)
  3. Seattle Seahawks, 6-7 (1-4 division)
  4. Arizona Cardinals, 3-10 (0-4 division)

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers won their fifth straight game on Sunday, defeating the Seahawks 28-16. Quarterback Brock Purdy passed for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He was picked off once.

Running back Christian McCaffrey had 16 rushing attempts for 145 yards on the afternoon.

They are on the brink of clinching the division, needing either a win over the Cardinals in Week 15 or a loss by the Rams.

Seattle Seahawks

Drew Lock got the start for the Seahawks in place of Geno Smith, who injured his groin. He threw two touchdown passes but was picked off twice and was sacked four times.

They converted on only 2-of-11 third downs and were outgained 527 yards to 324.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams played well but were bested in overtime 37-31 by the Baltimore Ravens, losing the game on a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes, Kyren Williams rushed for 114 yards and Cooper Kupp caught eight passes for 115 yards and a score, but Ravsens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw three touchdown passes, had 316 passing yards and rushed for 70 more.

 

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals were idle as they finally had their bye week.

Coming up in Week 15

  • The 49ers will play the Cardinals on the road.
  • The Rams host the four-win Washington Commanders, who are coming off their bye.
  • The Seahawks will host the 10-win Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night to wrap up the Week 15 schedule.
