49ers expect to have at least 16 players out vs. Broncos

The 49ers’ prioritization of health continued into their second preseason game. They’ll have at least 16 players out for Monday night’s game in Denver according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The good news for San Francisco is there aren’t any surprises on the list of inactive players. Although surprise news of Trent Taylor’s foot surgery that came out during the 49ers’ preseason opener means the door hast to stay open for another unknown injury coming to the fore.

Barring any in-game announcements though, the list published by Maiocco doesn’t include any new names or injuries.

Some of these injuries are precautionary. George Kittle said he’d likely play if Monday was a regular season game. Instead, he’ll rest his ailing calf to be ready for the regular season opener Sept. 8 in Tampa Bay.

The focus will certainly be on starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and his return to the field. His action may be limited though with Mike Person and Joshua Garnett both out, meaning third-string guard Najee Toran will get the start at right guard.

Virtually no starters played in the preseason opener, but it looks like all healthy starters will be available for some amount of work in the second exhibition bout.
