49ers escape Washington with no new injuries

Staying healthy and getting a win against a 1-5 Washington club were the 49ers’ top two priorities for Week 7, probably in that order. San Francisco took care of the second part with a 9-0 victory. They also escaped without any new injuries.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday told reporters wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and running back Matt Breida were both fine after leaving the game to be evaluated for concussions.

The lack of injuries feels like a small miracle given the field and weather conditions.

“It was as bad of conditions as I’ve been in,” Shanahan said.  “I’ve been in some colder games, some snow games and stuff, but none that have just really rained that much from beginning to end, especially on that type of field.”

Slippery fields are full of potential disasters. The 49ers managed to evade catastrophe though, which may matter more than their win on the scoreboard. They’re not out of the woods injury-wise. They still have to get Joe Staley, Mike McGlinchey, Deebo Samuel, Ahkello Witherspoon and Kyle Juszczyk healthy, but not adding to that list Sunday was vital.
