The Arizona Cardinals face the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers Thursday night at home. It is a 49ers team that has been extraordinarily good on defense. The numbers they are putting up are absolutely ridiculous.
Here are some of the numbers.
They are No. 1 in total defense, allowing only 224.4 yards per game. They are No. 1 against the pass, allowing only 128.7 net passing yards per game.
They are No. 2 in points allowed, giving up only 11 points per game. No team has scored more than 20 against them this season.
They are 11th in rushing defense, but that still is only 95.7 yards allowed per game.
They are No. 3 in third-down defense. They are No. 4 in sacks. They have three players on pace to have at least 10 sacks this season.
They have the second-most interceptions on defense with 10. They are No. 6 in forced fumbles. They have scored two defensive touchdowns.
By any metric, the 49ers defense is great. It will take an incredible performance by the Cardinals to overcome that.
