49ers confirm torn ACL for DE Nick Bosa

The 49ers on Monday confirmed their fears with defensive end Nick Bosa’s knee injury. An MRI showed a torn ACL for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 draft, ending his sophomore campaign.

Bosa went down in the first quarter of the 49ers’ Week 2 win over the New York Jets. A Jets tight end got a good block on Bosa, and the defensive end’s knee got twisted underneath him. He was carted off and quickly ruled out for the game.

This is the second time Bosa has torn an ACL, although the first time was in his opposite leg. His last ACL injury came in his senior year of high school before attending Ohio State.

He missed most of training camp last year with a high ankle sprain, but went on to play all 16 games plus a trio of playoff games. Bosa racked up 80 pressures and 9.0 sacks on his way to becoming the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

This season Bosa was off to a strong start. He tallied five pressures in Week 1, but none in Week 2 after playing only 11 snaps.

A timeline for his return has not been announced.
