49ers complete 90-man roster with 1st-year DL

The 49ers completed their 90-man roster Saturday just ahead of the start of their first training camp practice. They added undrafted rookie Jordan Thompson as their 90th and final player.

Thompson originally signed with the Colts following this year’s draft, but only spent two weeks with the club before being released.

The 6-foot-3, 292-pound defensive lineman spent four years at Northwestern and started 38 of the 51 games he played in. Thompson posted 89 tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and six pass breakups.

His senior season was his most productive year. He notched 30 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and three pass breakups.

There’s a logjam along the 49ers’ defensive line, so an undrafted rookie’s odds are even steeper than normal of making the team. All signs point to him being a rotational camp player who’s fighting for a chance to make the 10-man practice squad at the end of the preseason.
