49ers announce promotions and hirings in personnel department

The 49ers’ personnel department got a shakeup Monday when the team announced three promotions, a scouting change and three hirings.

San Francisco promoted Salli Clavelle to pro personnel analyst after one year as a scouting assistant. Travis Dauro also moved up to college scouting coordinator from scouting assistant. The third promotion came for Crowley Hanlon, who was a special assistant to player personnel, but is now a pro personnel coordinator.

Dominic DeCicco was a Midland Area scout in 2018 after a year as an assistant in the scouting department in 2017. This year he’ll serve the same role as last season, but his scouting area will move to the West.

The 49ers also announced three new personnel hires. Fred Gammage III landed his first NFL job as a pro personnel analyst after spending two years at Arizona State as a football management staff intern and a player personnel assistant.

Ryan Kessenich comes to San Francisco with a wealth of experience after entering the NFL ranks in 2005 with Washington. He also spent time with the Chiefs and Bears as a scout before joining the 49ers to take over as the Midland Area scout – the position vacated by DeCicco.

The final new hire is scouting assistant Steve Slowik. He’s a former Pro Football Focus analyst who worked his way into an NFL job. His brother is 49ers’ offensive assistant Bobby Slowik.

These are all mostly inward-facing jobs that are crucial in the evaluation of talent both in the NFL and in the college ranks. While general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have the final say, these personnel people play a key role in the 49ers’ free agent and NFL draft decisions.
