49ers add another CB to COVID-19 list, open practice windows for 3 players on IR

The 49ers on Wednesday added cornerback Ambry Thomas to the Reserve/COVID-19 list as part of a spate of roster moves. They also opened the practice windows for CB Emmanuel Moseley, wide receiver Mohamed Sanu and safety Tavon Wilson.

Thomas is the fourth defensive back and third cornerback to land on the COVID list for San Francisco. He joins Dontae Johnson, K’Waun Williams and Jimmie Ward. Running back Raheem Mostert, who’s on Injured Reserve, is also on the COVID list. All four defensive backs will have a chance to clear COVID protocols by Sunday’s season finale vs. the Rams.

Moseley, Sanu and Wilson could all have an impact for the 49ers on Sunday if they’re able to get through the week of practice and play in Los Angeles.

The 49ers haven’t had Moseley since he injured his ankle in Week 13 against the Seahawks. He’s their top cornerback so getting him back would be especially significant with their depth issue at that spot.

Sanu hurt his knee in Week 9 against the Cardinals and went on IR the following week. Prior to getting hurt he caught 15 of his 24 targets for 177 yards in eight games.

Wilson went on IR the same day as Sanu with a knee injury. He primarily contributed on special teams, but he was the backup free safety. He’d likely be in line to start if he’s activated and Ward can’t clear COVID protocols.
