THANE: The H1N1 casualty in Thane city has risen to three after a 49-year-old man from Kajuwadi in Thane succumbed to the virus on Thursday, officials said on Friday. Two women from Kopri had succumbed to the virus last week. "The [latest] patient with co-morbidity was ailing for the last two weeks and was at a private hospital and was shifted to a charitable facility in Louiswadi where he was screened and tested positive for the H1N1 on Wednesday.

However, before doctors could start treatment, the man died," said Dr Smitali Humraskar, deputy medical officer of health at the Thane corporation.

The number of H1N1 patients in the city has seen a quick rise from 20 on Sunday to 52 by Friday , according to officials.
