49,528 students of Gujarat University to get degrees

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat University will hold its 70th convocation ceremony on Saturday, online, where 49,528 students will be conferred degrees. Of these, 280 will receive medals and 62 will be awarded prizes, according to a media statement from the varsity.

Chief minister Bhupendra Patel will be the chief guest and deliver the keynote address. The convocation is being held online this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Education minister Jitu Vaghani and ministers of state Kuber Dindor, Kirtisinh Vaghela and senior education department officials are expected to join the event online.

A total of 49,528 students from nine faculties — arts, science, engineering, law, medical, commerce, dental, education, and pharmacy — will be awarded degrees at the convocation.

The number of students receiving degrees declined this year. Last year, 56,083 students were awarded degrees.
